The Hôtel de la Païva, also known as the "Mansion of La Païva," stands as a hôtel particulier, a grand townhouse unique to France. Its construction took place between 1856 and 1866, located at 25 Avenue des Champs-Élysées, and it was commissioned by Esther Lachmann, renowned as La Païva, a celebrated courtesan.La Païva's humble beginnings trace back to the Moscow ghetto, where she was born to Polish parents. Through a series of marriages, she eventually adopted the title of a self-proclaimed Portuguese marchioness and later a Prussian countess, the latter of which provided the financial means to build the opulent hôtel where she hosted extravagant banquets. Since 1904, the residence has been in the possession of the Travellers Club of Paris, a distinguished gentlemen's club that, until recently, exclusively welcomed male members.
